Victorian Sandalwood-Santalum Spicatum-
A long time ago some local land holders in my area put in groves of Sandalwood. As the Southern Sandalwood is nearly extinct the next best thing was to plant Western Australian species. What seems like a lifetime later we have begun to harvest and distill the heartwood. No branches, twigs, sticks or leaves are used in distilling Sandalwood oil.
Sandalwood are a parasitic species and need a host to attach to as well as the right conditions. The wood is cut down as a tree, then ground into small chips. The chips are soaked in warm water for 48 hrs and then the distilling takes another 3 days. All worthwhile when you smell the deep complexities of the earthy sweet essential oil. We are proud to be the first in Victoria to harvest and distill Sandalwood. Uses for Sandalwood Essential Oil.
